A Little Burlington History
For most of its history, Burlington was farmland. The railroads skipped it, and while nearby towns grew around their factories, Burlington stayed quiet. Then Route 128 went in during the 1950s and everything changed. Between 1955 and 1965, Burlington grew faster than any other town in Massachusetts, and its population tripled in five years.
In 1968, the Burlington Mall opened with Sears, Jordan Marsh and Filene's, and Burlington became the place everyone drove to.
The Burlington I Remember
I grew up just down the road in Waltham, so my Burlington has its own landmarks. Jordan Marsh and Filene's at the mall. Sears. A Brigham's right inside the mall. Circuit City on the Middlesex Turnpike. Caldor, in what everybody called the Caldor Mall, which is Middlesex Commons today. Most of those names are gone. The houses around them are still here, and they still need care.

Years of foot traffic through a busy mudroom had left the grout lines dark and worn. A full deep-cleaning restored the grout close to its original color without damaging the surrounding tile.

Two Burlington Jobs
The Smell Nobody Could Find
A Burlington homeowner had a mouse urine smell in the basement. Cleaning the floor didn't help, because the source wasn't on the floor. That's the frustrating thing about rodent odors: you can smell them, but you can't see where they're coming from. I used a UV light and a moisture meter to track it to the joists supporting the first floor, where the mice had been traveling, and confirmed it with my nose. The joists were exposed from below, so I treated them from the basement without opening any walls or ceilings. One treatment was all it took.
When I Say No
A small Burlington office called me about the carpet in their basement. The space had been closed up with no ventilation running, and when I got there, mold had grown on the carpet. I told them I couldn't clean it. Carpet cleaning doesn't fix mold. The first step is a mold remediation company that can assess it and abate it properly. I'd rather send you to the right person than clean over a bigger problem.
Small Offices in Burlington
Burlington is a town of office parks and shopping centers, and plenty of small offices need their carpet kept clean without a big production. I work with small professional offices, such as dental, medical, legal and financial practices, using the same inspect-first approach I use in homes.

Burlington FAQs
Can you clean carpet in a finished basement?
Yes. First I check for moisture, because carpet that stays damp can't be cleaned well and can grow mold. If it's dry, I clean it like any other carpet. If it isn't, I'll tell you what needs to happen first.
What if my carpet might have mold?
I won't clean over it. If I see or suspect mold, I'll tell you and recommend a mold remediation company assess it first. Cleaning can't fix it, and I'd rather tell you that than take the job.
Can you clean the older wall-to-wall carpet in a 1960s or 70s ranch or split-level?
Yes. I test the fiber first, because carpet that's been down for decades can be nylon, wool or a blend, and each needs different handling. I'll tell you what's realistic.
Can you get mouse or pet odors out?
Usually, yes, but only by finding the source. I look for where the odor actually is, then treat that.
Do you work with small offices in Burlington?
Yes. See our Commercial Services page.
