Mattress Cleaning in Waltham, MA
Stains, odors, and years of buildup, handled by an IICRC Master Textile Cleaner.
You spend about a third of your life on your mattress, and it shows. Sweat, body oils, skin cells, spills, and the occasional accident from kids or pets all work their way below the surface, where sheets and a quick vacuum never reach. I'm Ray DeMeo, owner of Sunshine Cleaning Systems in Waltham, and I clean mattresses the same way I clean fine upholstery: inspect first, then choose the method the fabric actually calls for.
What Builds Up in a Mattress
- Sweat and body oils that turn into yellow stains over time
- Skin cells that feed dust mites
- Urine, spills, and other accidents that soak past the surface
- Odors trapped in the fill below the cover
How I Clean a Mattress
Every job starts with an inspection. I check the cover fabric, test each stain, and look for anything that changes the approach, like how deep an accident may have soaked in.
First, I vacuum the mattress with a HEPA-filtered vacuum to pull out dust and allergens. Then I pre-treat it with a gentle, plant-based solution made from fruit and plant seed extracts, work it in, and give it time to break down what's built up. I rinse with the same gentle solution and finish with several dry vacuum passes, so the mattress is left only slightly damp, never soaked.
I control moisture carefully because too much water in a mattress can leave a lingering odor. Dry times vary with the mattress and the room, so I recommend waiting overnight before making up the bed
What I Can and Can't Promise
I'll tell you before I start what I expect to come out and what may only lighten. Old stains, especially set-in urine or yellowing from sweat, don't always disappear completely. And if you suspect bed bugs, call a licensed exterminator first. Cleaning is not pest control, but I'm glad to clean the mattress once treatment is done.
What My Customers Say
★★★★★
"Fantastic experience with Ray at Sunshine Cleaning Systems. We had a mattress that needed to be cleaned of stains and smell, as well as an almost 20 year old set of living room upholstered chairs. The mattress required an extensive cleaning and the results were beyond our expectations! The chairs also came out amazing! Ray was very diligent about his work, and is extremely knowledgeable. He was masked the entire time, and was very respectful of our home. I would highly recommend him!"

Mattress Cleaning FAQs
Can you get urine odor out of a mattress?
Often, yes, but it depends on how far the urine soaked into the fill and how long it sat. I inspect first and tell you honestly what to expect before I start.
Will every stain come out?
Not always. Fresh stains usually respond well. Old stains, especially yellowing from sweat and set-in urine, may lighten rather than disappear. I'll tell you which is which before I begin.
Do you treat bed bugs?
No. Bed bugs need a licensed exterminator. Once treatment is complete, I can clean the mattress.
What else can you clean while you're here?
Upholstered chairs, sofas, headboards, carpets, and area rugs. Many customers book a mattress and upholstery together.
How soon can I sleep on my mattress?
I leave it only slightly damp, but dry times vary with the mattress and the room. Waiting overnight before making up the bed is the safest bet.
